Getting Around, Trujillo Travel and Trujillo Transport

If you need to travel around Trujillo, then a number of different and equally inexpensive transport options present themselves. Most visitors staying in Trujillo favour bus transport, which is extremely reliable and regularly travels along the Pan-American Highway reaching many tourist hotspots.
Alternatively, you will probably find yourself using taxi transport to travel to your chosen destinations. Official taxis in Trujillo are easy to spot, being yellow in colour and featuring both a roof sign and a 'coat of arms' sticker on the windscreen. If you have the time, then cruise ships depart close by, docking at the port town of Salaverry.

Located some 10 km / 6 miles to the north-west of Trujillo, the domestic Capitán FAP Carlos Martinez de Pinillos International Airport is easily reached is around 30 minutes using the Huanchaco minibus transport (combis), although do bear in mind that you will need to walk the last 1 km / 0.5 miles. Alternatively, for just a little more, you can travel to and from the airport by taxi. LAN Peru airlines operates here and provides daily flights to Lima, while limited flights are often available to further Peruvian destinations such as Chiclayo, Cajamarca, Chagual and also Tumbes.

The city of Trujillo is conveniently connected to many appealing coastal cities by the Pan-American Highway (Panamericana Sur), such as Salaverry, El Gallinazo, Santa, Colsco, Chimbote, Huambacho, Tortuga and Casma (south), and also Chicama, San Perdo de Lloc, Pacasmayo and Chiclayo (north). However, rather than actually renting a self-drive car, most visitors prefer to simply hire a car or taxi for a minimum of a day, complete with personal driver. This mode of transport is both extremely convenient and surprisingly affordable.

Due to its excellent road connections provided by the fast and direct Pan-American Highway, bus transport in Trujillo has never been more popular.
On the downside, this means that buses can very quickly become completely full, therefore you should book as early as you possibly can. Regular buses travel from Trujillo to:- Cajamarca (six hours)
- Chiclayo (three hours)
- Chimbote (two hours)
- Guadalupe (two hours)
- Huaraz (nine hours)
- Lima (eight hours)
- Mancora (seven hours)
- Otuzco (two hours)
- Pacasmayo (just under two hours)
- Piura (six hours)
